Rib or pumpkin?
Benedict XVI General Audience today (31 Dec)., Quoting the theologian Peter Lombard, said "God created Eve from Adam's rib and not, for example, from his head, because he was not a dominant or even a slave but a human companion. " Newspapers and television stations reported the news, and many believers imagine that the creation of man took place really in that way. In reality, Catholics and Protestants for some time now agree that the verses of the Genesis of the creation can not be taken absolutely literally. It 'obvious that the biblical author, by using those images, he wanted to tell us something. The interpretation given by the theologian Peter Lombard, however, why would God chose a rib and not another part of Adam's body, such as the head, in my opinion leave things as they are. Would seem more logical to believe that a rib was chosen for the simple reason that we have as many as 24. It 'hard to imagine Adam without a head. On sober reflection, however, might have been right to take away the pumpkin instead of the rib.
